“WE’LL MEET AGAIN”

we'll meet againWe'll Meet Again is an emotional learning experience for all participants, who have the opportunity of understanding what it would be like to be a child living through the Second World War – both the tears and the laughter.

The children are transported back to a London school in 1939 and evacuated down to Sussex. There they are met by a billeting officer and sent to their new homes. We visit the cottage of Mrs Copper, who is trying to deal with a house full of evacuees as well as her own children. Next we see Mr Copper's shop, and see how rationing works. The third scene is in the ARP warden's home, where he greets the return of his children from the country and they learn what has been happening during the Blitz. The Workshop ends with Peace being declared – and everyone celebrates, dancing The Lambeth Walk.

COMMENTS

"We all gained a huge amount from the workshop. We were thrilled at the skills of the actors and their positive interaction with the children, who were unanimous in their enthusiastic response. Their written work on the following day reflected empathy and undestanding. The whole afternoon was really sucessful. The children are from some fairly deprived homes and so school has to provide stimulus. The actors brought out emotions and speech in children who don't always contribute. A huge feeling of empathy was created. Brilliant!" TEMPLARS FIRST
